Digital marketing, like any other disciplines, thrives in the continuous pursuit of knowledge-driven excellence. According to eMarketer’s latest report, the total media ad spending worldwide for 2018 is expected to rise 7.4% to almost $629 billion. And digital media will account for 43.5% of investments with the possibility to increase near 50% by 2020.

With these interesting figures predicted, we can expect the take up for digital marketing will certainly grow and will open doors for more reach and ROIs especially for retail businesses. Or in other words, it will be like the main headline taken from the Digital Marketing Asia 2018 Indonesia – “Be everywhere”. In fact, some would probably agree that digital marketing is almost already everywhere.

I recently had the opportunity to join the much-anticipated event in the industry, the Digital Marketing Asia 2018 Indonesia that took place at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel, located in the emerging area of South Jakarta. The event happened from 15th to 16th November and it gathered Industry experts that shared their broad experiences as well as their views on the emerging trends in the digital marketing sphere. They also shared some previews on how they are gearing up for 2020 and beyond, in front of an audience of agencies, business owners, and others from the marketing departments from a lot of different brands and companies.

A line-up of impeccable speakers

One of the things that impressed me at the event was its line-up of impeccable speakers starting with Setiaji, the Head of Jakarta Smart City who talked about the preparation for Jakarta Smart City’s plans supported by digital innovation on the first day of the event. Setiaji presented how to build a digital ecosystem for smart cities’ innovation & growth including steps toward becoming the next technology hub. Marlin Siahaan, the Indonesia Country Manager for Waze was also one of the speakers at Digital Marketing Asia and she highlighted Waze’s strategy to take location data to the next level. I found that one of the best presentations at the event was from VJ Anand, the Senior Vice President of Creative from Gojek. He shared the next level of creativity revolving in the digital transformations era that we are in through ads. I like his perspective on how Creativity + Data + Technology will bring powerful marketing strategy to owning the public’s acceptance and interest in the digital social world.

Basically, most of the talks from the first day were more about insights on the future of digital marketing in the fourth industrial era whereas the second day mostly focused on tips sharing. Hendra Yuniarto, the Marketing General Manager from PT Fast Food Indonesia for instance provided insights on how gamification is a fun way for marketing and Dinesh Sigh, the Membership Director from the National University of Singapore Society shared how to generate 12 times subscription revenue in three months. Overall for me, all the talks at the 2-day event gave an in-depth overview of how Indonesia has a huge potential to drive their digital adoption a step further to thrive in the lucrative digital marketing field.
