KUALA LUMPUR: Harnessing the rising development of the digital content market, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has allocated grants worth RM850,000 through its on-going 2018 Intellectual Property Design Creators Challenge (IPCC). Set to entrench the nation’s creative content industry within the intellectual property landscape, the IPCC is a creative content competition which commenced in 2006, as a catalyst for local talents to penetrate the local and global digital content market.
Open to amateurs and professionals from the creative multimedia industry, the competition is assembled into two rounds of pitching to a panel made up of creative industry leaders. The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Vice President of Technology and Content, Hasnul Hadi said, “This year a total of RM850,000 IPCC grants are offered by MDEC for industry players who want to develop their ideas and talents to the professional level. He continued that, “IPCC is not merely a matter of grants, but participants are also assisted by successful mentors in the industry.”
Johary Mustapha, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Forest Interactive, a mobile tech company, is among the mentors. As a widely respected industry expert, Johary was involved in drafting the Mandatory Content Standards (MCS) which was crucial in defining the regulations for mobile content during his former tenure as the President of Malaysian Mobile Content Provider Association. He said, “I’m excited to be a part in supporting the path to provide opportunities for new and upcoming key players to take the leap towards the success of Malaysia’s creative content industry.” According to him, it is with such dedicated support from MDEC that drives our Malaysian talents to flourish in the expansion of the digital industry to produce world-class content and makes waves across the globe.
