One of the biggest highlights in the mobile tech industry, the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2019) Barcelona is just a few weeks away. It is the largest annual mobile event in the world and it will be bringing together the latest innovations and leading-edge technology – which means we can expect a whole burst of exciting new smartphone launches and witness the latest developments on 5G technology. Trust us we know this because we’ve been there before and you can check out what we saw at MWC 2018.
So based on our previous experience, we are pretty sure this year we will likely uncover massive announcements from top mobile brands on what we can anticipate for the whole year. And generally, what will launch at MWC 2019 will set the mobile trends for the year.
We’ve compiled this preview to highlight all things mobile that we’re expecting to see at MWC 2019. But first…
When and where is the MWC 2019?
Taking place annually at the end of February, the MWC 2019 this year will happen from Monday 25 February to Thursday 28 February. However, the big announcements usually take place one day before the show as there will be a number of press conferences before the show actually opens.
The event will be in Barcelona primarily at the Fira Gran Via event hall. It is an exclusive event open only for major players and people in the industry or the press but we’ll be sure to share with you the latest updates on what’s happening, so keep on checking with us! In the meantime, let’s check out the rumored smartphones we can expect to be launched at the show.
What will launch at Mobile World Congress 2019?
Samsung at MWC 2019
Last year we saw Samsung released Galaxy S9 smartphone on the very first day of MWC. This year, initially there were talks of it launching its new flagship smartphones at the MWC 19 but Samsung has confirmed that its Unpacked event will take place in San Francisco. The event will happen on February 20, 2019, which is the week before MWC 2019 takes place. Given that, the upcoming flagship smartphones will certainly be shown off throughout MWC 19 and a 5G Galaxy S10 Plus is also reported to be incoming at Samsung’s Unpacked event, which hopefully will then be shown off at MWC 2019.
LG at MWC 2019
LG is also set to take on the race towards 5G as the brand has officially announced that it will launch its first 5G capable smartphone at MWC 2019. There is no certainty yet if the new 5G phone will be a stand-alone 5G device or it will be the LG V50, but we are certain we can expect the LG 5G phone to arrive alongside the rumored new flagship LG G8 – let’s wait and see!
Huawei at MWC 19
2018 was a whirlwind year for Huawei and to keep the momentum up, we expect to see the launch of P30 at MWC 19. This seems highly likely as we found that Huawei has booked in a press conference for 24th February but the Huawei P30 might not be the only notable announcement from the company at MWC 2019. Huawei has been working on a 5G foldable phone and its rumored to make its debut at the event.
Nokia at MWC 19
At MWC 2018 last year, Nokia revealed 5 new mobile phones including the slightly bent “Banana Phone” Nokia 8110. Nokia also brought four brand new Android smartphones to the show. The Nokia 1, Nokia 6, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco made their debut last year as well. We won’t be surprised if Nokia is going to showcase a whole range of new handsets this year. We’ve heard talks of the Nokia 9 PureView for quite some time now, and we’re just wondering if it’ll be launching at MWC or before the show.
Oppo at MWC 19
There’s a lot that has been happening with Oppo as the Chinese smartphone brand is now the fifth-biggest phone maker in the world and has outsmarted Apple in China and India. It has recently entered the UK and now Oppo has confirmed that it has plans to announce a folding phone at MWC 2019. We also know that on February 23, Oppo has set to hold an “innovation event” in Barcelona, Spain ahead of MWC 2019, where it could show off some new technology. Jumping on the 5G bandwagon, the company is also working on a 5G phone which we’ll find out if it’s going to announce the debut soon.
To sum up
With the MWC 2019 around the corner, we can expect that we’re getting closer to the big reveal of mobile devices trends that will take shape for the next 12 months. Overall, it seems that we can expect 5G and foldable phones to dominate the trends and we can’t wait for the launch of these smartphones at MWC 2019.
